About this
A Langebaan outfit running guided walks and day trips through the West Coast, for people who would rather not work out the route, the timing and the parking themselves.
The hikes go at an unhurried pace — coastal walks and trails inside the West Coast National Park, chosen for the surroundings rather than the distance. The day trips are half-day or full-day runs out to the small towns up the coast, relaxed or busy depending on what you ask for, and they do the driving.
They are worth asking about seasonally. For a few weeks in August and September the plains north of here turn over to wildflowers. From late October to March the lagoon belongs to the kiters and foilers. Winter is the quiet one — windless, mild, and the best of the year for walking, cycling and fishing. The park, the Berg River estuary and Rocherpan are all serious birding country, and the lagoon and the islands off Saldanha together make up a RAMSAR wetland of international importance.
They also arrange kiting, and have accommodation of their own in the middle of town.
Times shift with the seasons and the wind. Always double-check directly before heading out, and know your own limits — especially in open water.
