A whitewashed West Coast langhuis restored to its original character, a hundred metres or so from the beach and an easy walk from the main strip. The floors are screeded so sandy feet don't matter, and check-in is by keypad, which means nobody has to carry a key to the beach.
The kitchen is the heart of it: a ten-seater table built for the room, and a traditional fireplace to sit beside once the sun goes. Three bedrooms sleep six — two with a queen and a single each, one with a double. The sheltered backyard has a covered patio, a braai with its own basin and an outdoor shower, and it stays usable on the days the Langebaan wind is doing its worst.
Practical things the owners have thought about: a gas hob and a gas shower for when the power goes, rechargeable lights, and a garage. The West Coast National Park is about ten minutes' drive.
