Flamingo Beach Apartment 1

Apartment 1 is the ground-floor one of the two, and it is built around the garden. The living room opens through a sliding door onto the lawn at the centre of Flamingo Park, with the braai just outside and the car parked at the front door — which is most of why families with small children and a lot of luggage choose it.

Inside it is about 50 square metres and well kept. A kitchen with plenty of cupboard space and a washing machine opens into a living and dining area with a sofa and a TV; there are two bedrooms, one with a double bed and one with two singles, and a bathroom with a shower. If somebody has to work, a desk can be put in the second bedroom on request.

The park is gated, and the two swimming pools sit in the middle of it behind a fence, which is what makes it easy with children. The kite beach, the restaurants and the Spar are all within walking distance, and you will not need the car once you have parked it. Directions are simple: Flamingo Park is the first gate on the left in Main Street, just past the Windtown hotel.

Two things worth knowing. There is no air conditioning and no heating — a ceiling fan is all there is, which is fine in summer and worth remembering in the middle of winter. And the house rules are firm: no pets, no smoking inside, no parties, and no day visitors without prior arrangement. Towels are supplied, but bring your own for the pool and the beach.

The apartment is best for two adults with one or two children. It is run by Berber and her family, who live nearby.
