Flamingo Beach Apartment 3

Apartment 3 is the first-floor one, and it comes with the two things kitesurfers ask about: a balcony with its own braai, looking out over the park and the pool, and a garage. The garage takes the car or the wet gear, whichever matters more that week.

It is about 50 square metres. A kitchen with a washing machine and plenty of cupboards leads into a living and dining area with a TV and a sliding door onto the balcony. There are two bedrooms — a double, and a room with two singles — and a bathroom with a shower. A desk can go in the second bedroom on request, and there is a drying rack for the towels.

Flamingo Park is gated, with two fenced swimming pools in the lawn at its centre. The kite beach, the restaurants and the Spar are all within walking distance. Directions are simple: it is the first gate on the left in Main Street, just past the Windtown hotel.

Things worth knowing before you book. It is on the first floor and reached by an outside flight of stairs, so the luggage goes up. There is no air conditioning and no heating, only a ceiling fan — comfortable in summer, worth remembering in the middle of winter. And the house rules are firm: no pets, no smoking inside, no parties, and no day visitors without prior arrangement. Towels are supplied, but bring your own for the pool and the beach.

The apartment is best for two adults with one or two children. It is run by Berber and her family, who live nearby.
