A large house on the first fairway of Langebaan Country Estate, a few steps from the clubhouse and cafe, built around a high vaulted living room with beams overhead and windows down one side. The view is the golf course and the driving range beyond it, and the wildlife that lives on both — springbok, bontebok, steenbok and guinea fowl are all regular visitors, close enough to watch over coffee.

Four bedrooms sleep eight: two with king beds, one queen and one double. There are four bathrooms, three of them en-suite, and every bedroom opens onto a balcony or a patio through sliding or stacking doors. Every room has room-darkening blinds, which matters more than it sounds on a west coast summer morning.

The kitchen is built for people who cook — three ovens, two dishwashers, a serious stove and counter space to match. There are two balconies to choose between in the evening: the wide one over the first fairway, and a second over the driving range, which is where the springbok gather at dusk. A wood braai, a washing machine and a tumble dryer are all here, and a full solar system keeps the house running through load shedding.

Guests use the estate as well as the house — the pool, tennis and padel courts, the trampoline, the bike track, the walking paths and the sports field, all inside the security gate. The Range Cafe is a three-minute walk for breakfast and lunch and the clubhouse about five. Laguna Mall is five minutes by car from the estate gate, Main Beach seven, and Club Mykonos about the same to the north.

Two things to know before you book. The televisions are streaming-only, so bring your own logins — there is no DStv. And no pets: that is an estate rule rather than Carin's, so there is no asking around it.
