A Langebaan guide
Langebaan with dogs
Langebaan is a good town to bring a dog to, which is not true of every town on this coast. The beach is open to them, the lagoon is shallow and warm, and nobody minds a wet dog in the main road.
There are two places they cannot go, and one of those changes with the calendar. Both are worth knowing before you load the car.

Where they are welcome
Main Beach
Dogs are allowed. Leads are appreciated, and pick up after them.
Shark Bay
Dogs are welcome here too. It is the windy end of the lagoon, which most dogs enjoy more than their owners do.
Denlyn Park & Craft Market
Welcome on an ordinary day — but not on market Saturdays. See below.
Where they are not
Two rules, and getting either wrong means a wasted drive with a dog in the back.
Langebaan parkrun — no dogs at all
Not on a lead, not carried, not waiting at the finish. The course runs through a conservation area and the rule is absolute. It is the one people most often assume is flexible, because almost every other parkrun in the country allows dogs.
About the parkrunDenlyn Park on craft market day — no dogs
The park itself is fine with dogs any other day. The market is the one exception, and it falls on the last Saturday of every month. Saying “no dogs at Denlyn” is as wrong as turning up with one on market day.
About Denlyn Park & the marketPlaces that take dogs
Every one of these says so itself — we never assume it from silence. Tell the owner you are bringing a dog when you book, and ask about size if yours is a big one.

One thing worth knowing
The lagoon is shallow a long way out and the water is warmer than the sea on the other side of the peninsula, which makes it unusually easy going for a dog that is not a confident swimmer. The wind gets up most afternoons from spring onwards — mornings are the calm ones, and the sand moves fast enough in the afternoon to bother a dog’s eyes.
